NUMARK CHARITY BALL RAISES £30,000
Numark, the UK’s largest virtual chain of independent pharmacists, raised over £30,000 in support of Rainbows Children’s Hospice on 27th September with an exclusive celebrity dinner.
The black-tie event at the Walkers Stadium in Leicester was supported by suppliers and Numark members, together with celebrities from the world of sport and entertainment including Coronation Street legend William Roache, rugby superstar Tim Stimpson and cricketers Tom New, Dan Birch and Roger Tolchard.
Upon arrival guests were treated to a champagne reception which was followed by a three course dinner. Simon Colebeck welcomed guests and gave a brief introduction to the night. Hosted by Willie Thorne, the evening also included a charity auction, stand up bingo and magician Martin Daniels (son of Paul). Willie Thorne brought Erin Boag as his guest, his partner on the current series of Strictly Come Dancing, and they showed off a few steps on the dance floor.
The night was held in association with local Leicestershire based charity, Rainbows Children’s Hospice, and Andy Small – a father of a child who has been using the facility - gave a heartfelt speech on behalf of this cause. The Rainbows Children’s Hospice is based in Loughborough and opened in 1994. The hospice provides respite, palliative and terminal care to families who have a child or children with a life limiting illness.
The exciting auction included some wonderful items of memorabilia that raised valuable funds for Rainbows. Numark Pharmacy Advisory Board member, Fin McCaul, narrowly missed out on a very popular lot that included a chance for two people to appear as non speaking extras on Coronation Street. This went in the end to Randall Elliot of Sizma Ltd. The highest single bid during the evening - and at any charity auction Rainbows have been involved with – was for a large photograph of Sebastian Coe crossing the winning line in the 1500m Olympics in 1980, plus an autograph.
